Continuing on with the wedding theme, I thought I would share the amazing lunch we had at the Tasting Shed in Auckland over the weekend to celebrate our engagement. My new fiancé and I both currently live in Sydney, after moving over from Auckland just over a year ago. Hence despite been engaged nearly two months, we had not been able to share our excitement and celebrate with our family.

Last weekend though, we managed to get back home for a short break and after hearing great things about The Tasting Shed we thought we would give it a go. It surpassed all expectations and I will definitely be back. Located about 30min north west of Auckland in Kumeu it is surrounded by wineries and farmland, the perfect spot to get away from the hustle & bustle of the city. Being Auckland in the middle of Winter, it was obviously raining. This was not an issue at all and were perfectly catered to in the Cabana room which is a container style set up with heaters and blankets if required. This area is also surrounded by a huge deck which was fully covered, so it was definitely as comfortably “outside” you could get for the weather that we had.

There were 11 of us in total which included a couple of young kids hence the outdoor area was perfect for them and it meant the rest of us sufficient peace and quiet. We started off with a range of starters including breads, meats & dips, tuna, olives, roasted cashews and complimentary champagne for both myself and my fiancé. It was all amazing! I have to admit though my favourite was the corn bread which was delicious, both in taste & texture. For the mains and desserts we asked the staff to bring out a selection of their favourites. My favourite way to order at any restaurant! Again everything was amazing with this time the quinoa salad topping the list for dinner & the pumpkin puree within the churro’s dish for dessert. There was no fault with anything however and would happily have every single thing again.

For anyone looking for a special occasion or even simply a delicious meal, lunch or dinner, The Tasting Shed was hard to fault. The service was fantastic and they were so accommodating to our needs. The food of course was fantastic and the rural rustic scene was the cherry on the top. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back.
